Steve Castro was born in San José, Costa Rica. His debut poetry collection, Blue Whale Phenomena, 2019, is available from Otis Books (Otis College of Art and Design). 

He has walked on four continents: Africa (Egypt), Asia (Southwest Asia: Israel and The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan), Europe (England, France, Germany, Holland, Italy, Poland, Spain, Switzerland, The Czech Republic and Vatican City State) and the Americas (Canada, Costa Rica, Mexico and the United States of America).  

He speaks three languages: Spanish, English and German. 

He holds two undergraduate degrees from Indiana University - Bloomington and an MFA in creative writing from American University in Washington, D.C. where he attended on a full scholarship. He also studied for an academic year at Albert-Ludwigs-Universität Freiburg, founded in 1457.

He's the assistant poetry editor at decomP and served as the poetry editor of Folio during his three years at American University. 

The poet is left-handed and Roman Catholic.
